Burleigh Heads National Park

The Gold Coast is home to many beautiful national parks and forests. Burleigh Heads National Park is one such park where the forest meets the sea.

Burleigh Heads National Park has been formed where volcanic columns stretch down to the beach. The park is 27 hectares of beautiful rainforest and also contains mangrove, eucalyptus and grasslands.

Burleigh Heads National Park Walking Tracks & Camping

Burleigh Heads National Park is easily accessible from the Gold Coast by simply following the beach south along the coast for 11kms. The national park sits right on the water so visitors to the park will often see sea-eagles soaring along the coast. Some might even be lucky enough to spot whales during Spring as they migrate past the coast.

There are many walking tracks within the park itself including the Ocean View Walk around the rocky headland from Tallebudgera Creek; the Rainforest Circuit which takes you through the park where you can view the beautiful plant and bird life in the park. Make sure you stop past Tugun Lookout for beautiful views of the ocean and surrounding parklands.

Camping is not permitted within Burleigh Heads National Park and dogs are also not permitted. There are picnic tables at the northern entrance of the park as well as fishing spots at both the northern and southern entrances.

Many visitors bring a picnic and relax at Echo Beach after a picnic on the foreshore. With scenic panoramic views of the Gold Coast, the Burleigh Heads National Park is a great place to go for a casual stroll during your time on the Gold Coast.

  • As Burleigh Heads resident and a frequent user of the Ocean track in Burleigh heads national park I am astounded of the lack of maintenance during the past months. The grasses in some places are over a meter high and other places covering the track by 30 to50 cm. At this time of the year with thousands of tourists wanting to visit use the track it not a good look.I hope that some action will be taken as soon as possible.

    • Hi Paul,

No, not yet. The last update was made on 7 March 2018 indicating that the track was still closed due to a significant boulder fall. Updates on the anticipated duration of the closure will be provided as more information becomes available.

The closure does not affect the Rainforest circuit and visitors can still traverse between the southern park entrance at Tallebudgera Creek and northern entrance on Goodwin Terrace, Burleigh Heads while the track closure is in place.

      Bests regards,
      Jess

    • Hi Emily,

According to Qld Parks, work on the beach track is expected to be finished by the end of July (weather permitting).

Work is being completed in two sections, with the northern section of the Oceanview track currently closed between the northern entry at Goodwin Terrace and Echo Beach on Tallebudgera Creek. Work on the southern section of the track between the southern entry on the Gold Coast Highway and the mouth of Tallebudgera Creek is anticipated to start towards the end of June.

Alternative walking tracks will be available via the Rainforest circuit while the Oceanview track is closed.

      Kind regards,
      Jess
