Mount Cougal located within Springbrook National Park, just 25 kilometres south-west of the Gold Coast city centre.

There are two peaks on the mountain, West Peak and East Peak which are about 694 meters above sea level. The lower sections of Springbrook National Park are often quiet and a nice place for picnics and casual strolls.

Mount Cougal National Park Walk, Climb & Rock Pools

Springbrook National Park comprises four sections on and around the plateau; Springbrook section extends along the crest of the plateau, Mount Cougal section to the south-east and Natural Bridge and Numinbah sections to the west.

Being part of Australia’s world heritage areas, Mount Cougal is home to many protected species of flora and fauna. Many people come to Mount Cougal for the hiking experience, however climbing the mountain peaks to their summit is best left for experienced climbers as the walk is steep, unmarked and difficult.

There is a small picnic area is located adjacent to the carpark and beside the walking track entrance. Picnic tables and toilets are provided. Water is available for washing only, as it is not suitable for drinking. No barbecues are provided.

The walking track near the picnic area is a 1.6km return trip which takes most walkers approximately 1 hour to complete. There is a bitumen path that has a gradual rise which is suitable for prams and wheelchairs. There is a viewing platform beside Currumbin Creek which overlooks the beautiful landscape.

The Cougal Cascades, aka the Mount Cougal Rock Pools, is a very popular attraction, particularly in the summer months. Bring your bathers and take a dip in the cool waters where you can slide down the falls and jump off the cliff faces into the water below.
